The
Senior Citizens’ Party has been running now for over 15 years and is
one of the highlights of the year for the Rotary Club of
Pangbourne. It is organised primarily by the Community Committee
but involves a committed input by virtually all club members.
We have been fortunate in being able to use the Pangbourne Working Men’s Club as our venue and also having the Pangbourne Silver Band as our main regular source of entertainment. The latest Party which was held on the 13th January this year was adjudged to be one of the best ever with over 90 of our guests being entertained from 1.30 to 4.30 pm They were transported to the party by Rotarians and friends. They were greeted with a glass, or two, of sherry. After listening to a mixed programme by the Silver Band they were then stuffed with high quality sandwiches and home-made cakes, provided by Rotarians and wives. During an interval our resident comedian Peter Harris impressed our guests as usual with his jokes – the old ones are always the best!! We then had a raffle with everyone winning a prize. The Band then played music which the audience could singalong to with help from a group of young girls ( daughters of club members). The party came to end at 4.30 pm when our guests were transported home, in a happy state, clutching their raffle prizes, which might have been a large box of chocolate biscuits or even a large bottle of sherry for example. These parties would not be possible to hold without the generous support of the trades people, banks, businesses, etc from the local area. Perhaps we should invite these kind supporters along to see how much pleasure their donations bring to the Senior Citizens of Pangbourne? |
