Rotary Dragon Boat Challenge 2007
Monies Raised ….. £15,000 The Best Ever! The net total of monies raised was
approximately £15,000, which
was targeted to help the charities and causes below.
The purpose of the Dragon Boat Challenge is to provide an event that enables groups and organisations to raise money for their own specific causes through sponsorship. Additionally, after deducting event costs, the entry donations for crews who take part are divided and allocated to nominated charities or causes. This year they were: Breast Cancer Campaign (30%) Duchess of Kent House Hospice (30%) Many Smaller Local Needs – Rotary (40%) The amount raised in this way was approximately £3,500. Monies raised by Crew
Sponsorships or Donations totalled approximately £11,500.
The target causes for crew sponsorships were: COSMIC - Nortons and Jubilee Jelly Babes Both crews were supporting
COSMIC (Children of St Mary’s Intensive Care) in memory of Grace
Bradburn who sadly died in May 2007, aged 1.
Cancer Research - Denefield Dragons The Staff crew from Denefield School were supporting Cancer Research in honour of a colleague’s wife who had just been diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. Mobility Trust - Mobility Trust (Own charity) The Mobility Trust is a charity that provides powered wheelchairs and scooters for severely disabled children and adults who cannot obtain them through statutory sources or purchase such equipment themselves. 365 Alive Seat Belt Campaign - ASDA Sin-kings ASDA were supporting a sponsored
cycle ride being completed by the Abingdon Fire Brigade from Lands End
to John O' Groats.
